Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself) By Ne-Yo

Biography: Ne-Yo

Many Ne-Yo songs have already ruled the music charts around the world. Ne-Yo is simply one of the best and most popular music icons we have today. He is a Grammy Award winner, a top recording producer, a dancer, and also an actor. Many successful albums can be credited to his hard work and sheer talent. Thus, he remains as among the most sought-after R&B sensations these days.

Ne-Yo, Shaffer Chimere Smith in real life, was born on October 18, 1979 in Camden, Arkansas. He has a Chinese and African American descent. He came from a family of musicians. But he was single handedly raised by his mother after she divorced his father. Thus, they relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. While attending the Las Vegas Academy for high school, he adopted the screen/stage name ‘GoGo’ after joining Envy, an R&B group. Unfortunately, it disbanded in 2000. Fortunately, it was not the end for Ne-Yo songs. He continued writing compositions for other recording artists.

He had a breakthrough after writing the song ‘Let Me Love You’ for Mario. The single instantly reached the No.1 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100. He was signed by Def Jam to a new recording deal. He started adopting the name Ne-Yo, which was coined by record producer Big D Evans, who thought he was the music version of ‘The Matrix’ (movie) character Neo. It was in 2006 when he released his first ever album ‘In My Own Words.’ The single ‘So Sick’ was a monster hit that it paved the way for many other Ne-Yo songs to get instant attention. Other songs from the CD did as well like ‘Sexy Love’ and ‘When You’re Mad.’ The album was certified platinum after selling more than a million copies.

Ne-Yo released his second CD ‘Because of You’ in May 2007. Again, it contained many tracks that rocked the music industry. The lead single ‘Because of You’ ruled the music charts for some time. Although the other singles that followed were not as hot, the album still did excellently in terms of critical acclaim and sales. His third CD, ‘Year of Gentleman’ had an international release in August 2008. According to him, the album was about his persona, charm, and swag. It was another commercial success. Of course, it contained several other notable tracks from him like ‘Miss Independent’ and ‘Closer.’ In 2009, he released his greatest hits album, called ‘Ne-Yo: The Collection.’ Aside from inclusion of monster hits, it came with a limited edition DVD of his best music videos.

In September 2012, he released his latest album ‘R.E.D.’ It contained the latest Ne-Yo songs ‘Lazy Love’ and ‘Let Me Love You.’ Before that, he was busy doing and producing songs for other popular recording artists like Beyoncé, Monica, Mary J. Blige, Cheryl, and Wilow Smith. He also did several notable and record-breaking collaborations with Pitbull. He was quoted as saying that he is working to collaborate with other popular artists like Drake, Lil Wayne, and Chris Brown.
